Il a ensuite effectu\u00e9 une r\u00e9sidence en m\u00e9decine interne et h\u00e9matologie \u00e0 l\u2019H\u00f4pital g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de Montr\u00e9al (HGM) et une sursp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 en h\u00e9matologie au Strong Memorial Hospital de Rochester, dans l\u2019\u00c9tat de New York, avant de revenir \u00e0 l\u2019HGM. Le Dr Whittemore a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 directeur du programme de formation m\u00e9dicale de premier cycle du d\u00e9partement de m\u00e9decine de l\u2019HGM et pr\u00e9sident du comit\u00e9 de formation m\u00e9dicale de premier cycle de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McGill. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 directeur de l\u2019unit\u00e9 d\u2019enseignement clinique et m\u00e9decin-chef adjoint \u00e0 l\u2019HGM. Il a de plus \u00e9t\u00e9 b\u00e9n\u00e9vole pour la Croix-Rouge canadienne pendant plusieurs ann\u00e9es. En 1988, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 directeur national du service des transfusions sanguines de l\u2019organisme, poste qu\u2019il a occup\u00e9 jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la moiti\u00e9 de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1989, lorsqu\u2019il a \u00e9t\u00e9 recrut\u00e9 par l\u2019HGM pour le poste de directeur des services professionnels. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-24f872ab elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"24f872ab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEn 2002, il a \u00ab pris sa retraite \u00bb pour devenir directeur des laboratoires d\u2019h\u00e9matologie de l\u2019H\u00f4pital de Montr\u00e9al pour enfants. \u00c0 peine dix-huit mois plus tard, on lui a offert le poste de directeur de cette division. Durant son mandat, il a coordonn\u00e9 le r\u00e9tablissement, apr\u00e8s une interruption de 13 ans, de notre programme de bourses de recherche cliniques, la r\u00e9novation de notre unit\u00e9 des patients hospitalis\u00e9s (l\u2019unit\u00e9 de soins de Sarah), l\u2019accr\u00e9ditation de notre programme de recherche sur les cellules souches h\u00e9matopo\u00ef\u00e9tiques ainsi que la reconnaissance de la division par le gouvernement du Qu\u00e9bec (Lutte contre le cancer) au plus haut niveau possible, soit 4A.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3e1a6e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3e1a6e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Conf\u00e9renciers du Fonds de professeur invit\u00e9 N.
